The Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica, who was unable to attend the ceremony, said this is as an historic and important event in the development of tourism in the country.
“We are extremely delighted to see this first step in what will be a major project on the northwest coast of Dominica,” said the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit. “It is this Government’s policy to bring investment and jobs that are sustainable to the country. On the edge of the Cabrits National Park, we think this will be a major draw for discerning travellers from all over the world.”
The resort will be Kempinski’s first luxury hotel project in Dominica. The Cabrits Resort Kempinski Dominica will be a 160-room hotel on Douglas Bay in Cabrits on the north shore of the island, close to the town of Portsmouth.
The resort is adjacent to the Cabrits National Park, an area known for its natural beauty. Dominica is renowned for its eco-tourism initiative, 365 rivers, waterfalls and hot springs. Cabrits Resort Kempinski Dominica is being designed to ensure a natural balance between the land and the sea, while ensuring a modern contemporary guest experience.
The luxury hotel will offer a unique opportunity, the first Government approved real estate project under the Citizenship By Investment Program of the Commonwealth of Dominica. Investors can obtain citizenship of the country by purchasing a share in the development for US$220,000 in a limited partnership structure.
“This will be our second major development in the Caribbean and we are delighted to be working with the Government of Dominica and using its Citizenship-by-Investment program,” says Mohammed Asaria, Vice Chairman of Range Developments. “We are also very pleased to have signed Kempinski Hotels to manage the property, as they are renowned the world over for their expertise in operating five star luxury hotels and delivering luxury services to guests.”
Range Development’s first project in the Caribbean, the Park Hyatt St Kitts, currently under construction, is due to open in 2016.
“We’re delighted to have been selected to manage this exciting new luxury hotel project by Range Developments. We’re particularly appreciative of the unspoiled beauty and natural heritage of Dominica, and the generous hospitality of Dominicans. We look forward to working together with local staff to deliver bespoke services and activities inspired by the island,” says Xavier Destribats, President Europe of Kempinski Hotels.
Dominica’s Citizenship-by-Investment program is aimed at encouraging substantial investment projects in Dominica. Investors not only have a chance to invest, but assuming they meet the stringent requirements, receive citizenship of the country, with all the benefits of full citizenship.
